I just finished this one. This is an OM with cherry back and sides and a redwood top. The neck is cherry and maple with a rosewood fingerboard, bridge and headplate. Binding is curly maple and bone nut, saddle and bridgepins. I enjoyed working on this one since the cherry came out of the woods on our property and the maple came from an Amish sawmill here in Reading, MI. Pals, Vic.

Very nice, Vic! The cherry and redwood look great. What is the sound like?

Nice! I need a decent bandsaw ao I can build from local woods. Someday.
How does cherry bend? I imagine it scorches/burns easily?

Really nice, really classy looking. Absolutely LOVE working with cherry - like butter. What's the beautiful rosette?

Always a magical moment when you first hear it's voice isn't it?
Very cool to be using local woods.
I wonder if poplar is a good tonewood... :-)

I don' know about acoustic guitars, but poplar works quite well in electric guitars. One of my favorite electric woods when using an opaque finish. And I think that's part of the reason you don't see it used in acoustics. It doesn't have a particularly attractive grain, and a lot of it is prone to green mineral streaks, which most do not like.
Add to that the fact that, although technically a hardwood, it can be rather soft, and I've run into a lot of spongey/pithy examples as well.

Hi all, and thank you for the nice comments. I am real happy with the sound of this one. The rosette is segmented curly maple with .020" black fiber between the segments and B/W/B purfling rings. Pals, Vic.
