For those of you who may be using fish glue, what joints are you using it for? Specifically, I'm about to join a really nice red spruce top, and am concerned if this is an appropriate choice. I'm trying to use fish glue (Norland's) for this whole build if possible. Also, has anyone had experience using it on Brazilian RW backs?

It works great on anything you might imagine. Clamp it for 10 to 12h. It is a good idea to size the spruce endgrain for the rosette and purfling though, as the slow drying can cause a lot of soaking. Just paint a very thin layer about 1h in advance of the actual gluing.

Interesting tip, thanks. I didn't think about the rosette application yet, but that makes some sense, I think.
Anyone use it for jointing BRW specifically?

I've used it on 2 brazilian backs. I use fish glue for everything but fingerboard gluing without any issues.
It's just a bit harder to clean up squeeze out.

Fish glue is great and I use it a lot. I probably would not use it for an Adi top. Not because it wouldn't adhere well but because it might leave a witness line. I'd use LMI white to avoid a dark glue line. Do a test piece first.

Good advice there. I'll have to try a select sample of red spruce to see how it handles that. This particular top is pretty light in color.

If the joint is good and the clamping goes well it shouldn't leave any line. I joined over 30 spruce tops so far (mostly Euro, various colors including snow white) and only once I got a visible line. Must have been my fault, after I split and glued again it came out fine. Often I use a magnifier to find them...
