This is going to be collected by its new owner this weekend, together with an LS redwood/Cuban Mahogany OOO

This is a sister guitar to my old personal DADGad guitar I made some years ago, the customer played that and liked it and luckily I had sister sets to both the B&S and soundboard.

Soundboard, European Spruce (speaks Italian).
Back & sides, English Walnut, from a tree that came down in a storm in 1987.
Fingerboard, Bridge and Headplates, Madagascan rosewood.
Binding and rosette, London Plane.
Neck, Curly European Sycamore (that's a maple to those who live on the wrong side of the pond).
Purfling and neck laminates, Walnut, ebony/pear/ebony.
Bracing stock, European spruce.
Nut and saddle, camel bone.
Finish, oil varnish

Though I shouldn't say so myself, this has turned out to be one of the two or three best sounding steel string guitars I've made, very full and even right across the board with strong fundamentals but overlain with rich overtones. I'll try and get the new owner to record it for me .

I'm completely anal when it comes to the fit of components on a guitar, binding gaps and gaps at the neck body joint drive me mad, so I love it when it ends up like this.

Beautiful guitar, Colin! It has a very nice visual balance, and the bindings are stunning without looking overwhelming. Congrats! [clap]

Nice looking, Colin!
It's funny, the London Plane looks like sycamore.
Beautiful!

Always a treat to see you post a build, Colin. Thanks for taking the time to do so!
Love the color palette--as usual. I am particularly fond of your necks, and your laminating scheme.
But better luck next time with the fit-to-body.

:P

What? No Mahogany? ! !

Thanks everyone for your kind comments.

Don, my friend, in parallel to this I've been making an all mahogany OO-13 fret, which should appear on a forum near you next week or so. I get withdrawal symptoms if there isn't some mahogany being worked, as you know!

Phew.....I was worried about you there for a minute.
:D

I'm actually building an OM with BRW for the first time. I've never used the stuff except for bridges and fretboards, so it's going to be an interesting experiment. I may have to build one with some Mahogany too, just to keep some balance in life. I wish I had some nice Cuban Hog! But at least I have a good source for some.

Don, I've got this LS redwood/Cuban mahogany OOO going to the same owner as the Walnut OM this weekend. Is this the stuff you're talking about. [:Y:]

Those woods would have made such a nice classical...

Seriously, though, well done! I always look forward to seeing your work.

Very nice !
Is it going to a classical player who needs a great steel?
I see no side or f.b. markers?

Mike the player is a steel string guy, but it isn't unusual in the UK for no fretboard markers, again I guess a hangover from the classical guitar influence. I never used any on my personal guitars, you never see any markers on a violin or cello once a student is past level 1, and they don't even have frets! If people want side markers I might put them on, after giving them a lecture on learning the fretboard, but I hardly ever get asked.

Gosh, wish I could touch that thing!
For me I like it more than the all mahogany one.
Can we have a close up photo of the volute area from the side please?
