Haven't seen anyone post one of these is awhile so I will.
Not much going on in my shop this weekend bc I'm having thanksgiving
With a bunch of friends and I get to deep fry the turkey.
But I did finally get to clean my work area up and hoping to finish sanding
My braces on my first top.

Cleaning up. Still planning my next build with my client (there's obviously no hurry).

Not much guitar related, but I've been working on the pattern for my Clairtone Project G speaker globes. Sanding, sanding, sanding, and polishing. Got the fiberglass laid up on it for the mold yesterday and now have to face the challenge of getting it off! The photo is before the polishing and 'glassing.

Have 2 canoes underway at the moment, and they take up all of my shop space and time.

Just finished a re-fret with some additional repairs last night. That included filling a couple of dings in the top. Did some glazing of the French Polish on the two I am working on this morning. Then me and the Mrs. headed down to Hearne Hardwoods to pick out some stock for future necks and bindings and such. That place is heaven! So much wood, so little money in my account.

Oh, just messing up some slotted headstocks here, one yesterday and then another today! Losing woodworking confidence fast. I'd provide some pics for doofus of the month, but it doesn't feel amusing yet.

Wish I had been at Hearne's looking for neck stock with Brian - now I need to!

Just to add to the world-wide glut of handbuilt L-OOs, here are a couple more.
One is Amazon rosewood & second growth Sitka. The other is Koa B&S and top.

Hanging in the spray room after the first three coats of nitro.

Image

The Sitka gets a sunburst. An old radius dish mounted on a lazy susan makes this job a lot easier.

Image

A "silver" & abalone vine inlay for the Koa guitar.

Image

I haven't done much colour mixing with FX dyes before. Here is a pic of how I got the colour match I wanted. Putting a drop of each dye onto the paper, straight out of the bottle was a big help. It gave me an idea of how each dye might influence the final colour.
It took a while. Adding a few drops of this & a few drops of that, but I ended up with a shade which compliments the rosewood & the Macassar ebony fingerboard & bridge. (I hope!)
To start, I measured five ounces of lacquer into the jar & then kept track of each drop of dye added. If I have to, I can reproduce the colour.

Image

Looking forward to stringing these two up. Especially the Koa. This is the first non-Weissenborn guitar I've build with a hardwood top.
Tap tuning the Koa presented a whole new set of challenges!

As always, it's great to see so much great work on these threads. Bring it on!

#101, a Cypress guitar (classical of course) for a client in Colorado.

I haven't made one of these since my #90 guitar in 2008 so I'm rather looking forward to it.

Doing my first f.p. finishes,
and liking it!
2 Weissies,
and 1 "Kona" modified to modern looks.
No pics until the yellow siris Weiss has a few more coats on it.
Also inlayed my "A" logo on the y.s. one.
Best inlay yet for me, I think.....
Also, figuring out how to do 2 commissions,
a Phin, and an elec slab dulcimer.
My '92 Chevy work truck passed smog inspection today!
In CA, that is a big deal.
Really nice work, peeps!

Making a couple of bridges for #4 and 5. Necks and bodies are FP'd. Getting very close.

BTW Daniel, beautiful sunburst.

Almost forgot. Doing a "Meet the Maker" for American Lutherie mag. Just finished transcribing roughly 6000 words, now the easy part is just cleaning it up a bit.

Yeah--what Chris said. Those are truly elegant.
Brings to mind Bridge City Toolworks.

Those inlaid volume knobs are exquisite !!!

Setting the two necks on another 6/12 doubleneck acoustic ... tough to get them both even with the same pitch, once you get the yaw just right (the curve of the body isnt anywhwere near square where the necks attach top and bottom of centre) .. only took about 5 hours. Now I get to rough in the radius and inlay a couple of rose vines down each one .....

Thanks guys! Those are part of a motiff. Volume knobs, electronics panel, and truss rod cover....all inlayed like these. It ties things together.

Next time I do this I'll make all the hardware out of both aluminum and brass to be able to offer a choice of color on the hardware.

Too cold and dry in the shop for guitar building, so I built a new bench hook.

I haven't honestly thought to sell them...though I would be interested in hearing what other people think they are worth. It might affect my thinking on this. PM if anyone has an idea. Truthfully...I was toying with the idea of having these peripherals exclusive to my guitars.

The bottoms are shaped to fit into recesses in my bodies so I'm not sure how they'd look mounted on a flat top.
