I bent sides for my next guitar today. Big Whiskey's Bubinga from the swap last year. Went perfectly easy. Thinned yesterday and applied SSII. Let sit flat overnight. Cut to profile today. Realized I had cut them to make a lefty, so I did some more sanding on the formerly inside faces and bent to the form. There's one flat section about an inch long in the lower bout.

My question is this. I'm doing a cutaway and will be pipe bending the cutaway. Did bending with the blanket cook out the SSII? Do I need to reapply it if I'm doing the cutaway later today?

Thanks,
Mike

If it feels like it needs it, I mist with SS II when I'm doing touch-up work on the iron.
SS II does bleed colour out of some wood, so I use it sparingly.
The steam is probably not good for you... I only use it with hard to bend wood where water doesn't feel like it's doing the trick.

It definitely felt stiffer than before I cooked it. I went ahead and tried to bend it anyway. I can't say if the cracking noises were a result of the SSII no longer working, or my impatience and inexperience on the pipe. Either way, this one will now be a non-cutaway, which I prefer the look of anyway. I wanted to try it since I've got a friend who really wants a cutaway. Maybe it's time to call John Hall and order the extra press for my bender.

Mike
