Hi folk,

Did anyone buy some tonewoods or soundboards from "www.best-eurospruce.com" recently ?

I ordered some woods to them, and I sent money through PayPal.

After I paid, I haven't received thier reply at all.

What do you think ?

I can't imagine that there would be a problem with them. Maybe not prompt in the answering department, but generally, I believe, thought to be reliable. Martin was, or is, a member here, I believe.

I have had nothing but good luck with Martin and Best-Eurospruce. If I'm not mistaken there was (is?) a large trade show in the EU right now. I know that they would be there so orders would not ship. It's unusual that you at least didn't get an email though. I may have a different email for Martin if you'd like it PM me. I haven't bought anything from them for a year or so but I wouldn't worry too much.

Best of luck, keep us posted.

Jay

Martin's family had ongoing health problems when I was dealing with him, which can delay responses, but he was reliable.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Thank for all.

I have decided to wait more for your ideas, opinion.
Before a week, Martin and I were sending and receiving many e-mails each other.
But after payment, he didn't reply to me, no correspondence made me uneasy.

I wait more that he write to me again at all.

Don't buy anything from this man. I bought minor things as a couple of tops with no problems. But when I did a big order (more than 1000€) he stopped answering mails or Phone calls. I waited and waited, wrote mails periodically and got no answers. I contacted some fellow makers here in Spain who appeared at Martin's web as customers. They had never bought from him. I even thought he was dead. But it seams he's alive and doing things.

A few years ago he was doing good business and created a good reputation. I worked with him too and was OK for a while but then went erratic. We have an unfinished business and I went at great lengths trying to contact him in 2009 and early 2010, with no luck. A premier German luthier told me to stop wasting my time. Carlos' story above dates from june 2010 (back then he contacted me as well trying to figure out Martin)

May be you can ask Martin to read this thread. He may have something to tell about all our comments.

Wow this is an unfortunate turn. I got some real nice wood from him in the past with no problem. Over $1000 Euros too. I'll shoot him an email and see what happens.

Hi Miguel

I had a contact from Martin.

He was out of home for his family's problem.
So he didn't reply to me.
After return to his home, he sent my products to the luthier
I selected, and told me a tracking number.
The luthier got my packet today.
I am waiting luthier's first impression for woods.

Best,

Ken

Wishes for Martin and his family. I've ordered from him once and the service is more than satisfying.

I have to say that I tried to contact Martin again, after this thread came out. Again no answer from him. I can't understand he is answering you and ignoring me. Obviously he read this and is trying to seem reliable. I can't believe this.

What makes that so obvious? He hasn't logged on here since 2008, unless he changed his username.
