 Post subject: Black Fingerboard Stain
PostPosted: Tue Mar 29, 2011 10:41 am
I'm thinking about using the StewMac Black Fingerboard Stain on an Ebony Fret board however I have a few concerns. One is the fret slots, I'm worried that the oil could cause the frets to lift up. Another would be bleeding, lets say down the road I use some cleaner/conditioner on the board, will it bleed?

Thanks in advance,

Scott

Looking for info on this stain from Stewmac and found this post, which never got any replies. I have the same questions Scott had.

Scott, did you ever get answers to your questions?

Anyone else use this dye on fretboards and have any experience to share? A couple of reviews on Stewmac's web site say it stains fingers for a while after application, while playing. I wonder if that goes away over time.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I use it occasionally for fingerboards as well as dying Braz bridges black. (I don't like Ebony bridges) It will lift, rub off ect. but after a week or 2 it's pretty colorfast.

It can give a blue tinge to MOP position markers.

You can buy the Fiebings leather dye at any Tandy Leather store as well.

I use it sometimes. You do have to gently scrape the MOP clean. Other than that I have been very happy with it.
