I Posted this offer last November but am up to my earballs in these sets again. I can't keep anymore myself (I have a few hundred for my purposes now) and they have too much potential to just burn. They are great for practice sets (gluing up, installing rosettes, finishing on "real tonewood") but you will indeed be able to get smaller instruments out of some the sets. Some of the people who bought these last time round were very happy with the deal. Here is the description from the last thread one these sets. Same deal!

The logs I am processing from right now have some very nice sets but they also have a good number of sets that have issues that will make getting a guitar template out of them a bit difficult. I have stashed away a 100 or so of these sets for a future project I have in mind (just cause they are so nice!) but still have a whack of them here. These sets will work perfect for re-processing into uke and flattop mandolin sets, for bridge patches, soundhole patches, back grafts and any number of other spruce products. As I said the wood itself is fabulous and these are cut as if they were mastergrade sets, that is from hand split billets and paying close attention to issues of runout and the lot. Anyway, I have boxes that will hold 13 sets. Shipping to the US will be $36 (a bit more to Aus and Europe ($82 I think) and bit less to Canada ($28 but GST will be added [xx(] ). I have enough on hand for 20 packages for sure and maybe more and I will be making more soon. So a box of these sets will be $100. About $7.70 per set. Here are a couple pics of a couple sets I pulled and sanded at random (they will NOT be sanded but sawn when shipped).

I have a couple of these sets that I will be making a couple of small classicals from and I am sure that with careful planning some will get awesome fullsize guitar sets as well. But I make no promises in that regard and I WILL NOT sort these as I will be just placing 13 sets in a box and then when the order is made I will label the box and get it off to the post office.

So, $100 plus relevant shipping paid via paypal, mastercard or visa. This wood is awesome, if not for the defects these are all top self sets  (what a statement but I hope you know what I mean!) Paypal to shane at highmountaintonewood dot com.

Thanks

Shane

I bought a set last time,
and indeed it was very usable wood,
and a steal for the money!

At the same time I got wood from one of the major vendors,
and some of the tops (AAA and better) had bigger flaws than
some of the Shane´ s tops, even inside the guitar outline!

So I highly recommend this offer, and will buy another bunch in the future,
when I have some more shelf space.

Last year I bought a soundboard from this tree and I can attest it is nice stuff:
-monster silk, no runout
-light color, not much Sitka-red
-very light weight, only 6 grams/inch3, or 360Kg/m3 (a bit more where the grain is tight)
-excellent stiffness to weight ratio, definitively above average.

I'll put one aside Mike, no problem.

Just remember though guys and gals, you are not likely to get full size guitars out of these sets, certainly not without some work anyways!

Hi Shane,

Are these unsuitable for guitar templates only because of appearances or is there some structural defect that might be problematic?

Thanks,
Charlton

Mostly there will be a sap seam, or excessive knot shadow in one section or a bit knot or something like that. Otherwise these sets are processed right along side sets that become mastergrade and 3A. Meaning that these are from nice billets which are handsplit and sawn with hopes of getting quality tonewood.

Hope that helps

Thanks

Shane

Remember guys & gals, there's nothing wrong with 3 or 4 piece tops. the quality of this wood is high, except for the bad spots. Cut 'em out and keep on going.

Carrying Waddy's thoughts further....
I don't have to build for a living and understand the many reasons for using the best, clearest top possible. I just finished a dulcimer with a beautiful silky top that has some small knots in it. I know it's not a guitar and there are many differences. But as long as it's structurally sound and workable, I like the reminder of what we are working with, those little "defects" add character and their own beauty. That said, I am really looking forward to the tops on the way...

Oh ya, I have lots left. And I still have a good portion of this log to process so if I run out right now more will be ready soon but I still have a bunch of sets and I have a few hundred that I have put aside for some of my own plans and I could eat into those if I needed as I dream big but times gets in the way....

Thanks

Shane
