I saw this listing that John Arnold has on ebay....thought I would pass it on for the pink ivory fans here. Dread sized, slab cut back, quartered sides.

You know that a 3-piece jumbo sized back of pink ivory is only 150 euros (they sent me a euro price list for some reason) from Prosono ZA yeah?
Chris

Oh, I've never even heard of them before. Looks like a cool operation, I'll keep that bookmarked for when I need a good sized pile of new sets, to make it worth shipping :)

Pink ivory is much more available now than it was 20 years ago. I believe the selling price reflected the fact that that set was cut back then. I certainly favor woods that have some age on them.
There is one more classical (00) size set left, and it is more quartered. I will probably list it after the holidays.
I remember when Ted bought that wood in 1989. It was half a 12" diameter log, 3 feet long. The price was $3500. It could not have yielded more than 7 or 8 guitars.

So you're saying there are some 5-6 guitars out there from him with PI back/sides? Let's see 'um!

I only knew of three, and the only one that I actually saw was the Travis Tritt guitar:

The other two were classicals.
I can only imagine what happened to the rest of the pink ivory wood. Ted probably sold some, and there is a back that is the sister to the Tritt guitar. It is sanded pretty thin (about 0.08" on the outside edges). It even has the cutaway dreadnought pattern drawn on it.
