Lovely guitar Kent! What's with the CF tube(?) crossgrain in the soundhole?
D. Newton, is that a Spanish joint on the peghead/neck? Very pretty guitar!

Here are two recent guitars I finished for a player who wanted nearly identical instruments except for the top woods. They are EIR back and sides, with Madagascar binding, Ebony bridge and fingerboards, and Mahogany necks. The tops are WRC and Red Spruce.

Thanks Haans.

The short answer is that it's part of a truss that performs the same function as your Larson style tubes. The longer answer is here. www.chassonguitars.com/design.html

Not to put myself in the same category with any of the builders above, but this is definitely my best to date. OK, my first. Couldn't have done it without all the info learned here at OLF and else where.

I finished this little guy up a few months ago. 4 pc. Madagascar rswd back and sides, swiss top. It sounded nice and lively right off the bat, it was fun playing it for a week or so until it headed out. It was built for a friend and I am interested to hear it after a few months of playing. Also to check on its belly, it was built lightly!

Everyone's work looks great!
Kent, the detail work on the trim of your guitar is really beautiful.

And now for something completely different.....

Here's a shot of the mandolin I recently completed. This thing sounds freakishly good for a first build. It's got a Redwood top, Peruvian Walnut back and sides, Cocobolo figerboard, Sapele neck, Schaller tuners, and a hand cast tailpiece. I'm really proud of it. bliss

My best-sounding guitars don't necessarily look good. (neither do my other ones)

Not fancy, but the holly bindings are pretty cool.

Man, there were some real beauties in this thread. Great work everyone!!! I have been pretty busy myself and just recently got these prepped for finishing. I've got a couple more just started and one other that needs bridge attachment and setup.

Sinker Redwood / Nigerian Ebony
Adirondack / Brazilian Rosewood

Simon,

Great combo on the sinker Redwood\Ebony. It really goes together like the trees were made for that.

Simon, that's a very pleasing body shape- beautiful shoulders,
upper and lower bout integration, and subtle curves.
What is the lower bout width?

Thanks guys. The body shape started out as being quite similar to a Lowden and that was what I did for years. Over a year ago, I took everything back to the drawing board and made some significant changes to my old shape. The body shape is quite similar to an OM in terms of size and purpose. The lower bout width is 15" -- I call it a "Modern OM".

Regarding the Sinker top -- these really dark Sinker Redwood soundboards can be very odd in terms of creating a classy aesthetic. I tend to dislike (and most folks feel the same as I do) a top that is darker than the back and sides. When it comes to a top like this one, I think the only thing you could really pair it with would be African Blackwood or some kind of dark Ebony -- and possibly a really dark set of Indian RW. This guitar might be a turn off to the traditionalists but I am hoping it will turn out nicely -- I never quite know until the finish goes on how it will all come together.

Or it might make them converts! That is a sweet.

Simon, while you will never convert me ( ;)) from tradition, that sinker is just striking. Absolutely right about the African blackwood or ebony...
Greg G, if I had to switch from ivoroid, that holly is lovely!
