What bit do you use (assuming you route your rosettes) to cut out your rosettes in your soundboards?

i.e. Do you use straight bits?
Do you use spiral bits?
If you use spiral bits, do you use downcuts or upcuts?

I am on a quest for cleaner cut rosettes. And yes, I will be using a circle cutter in combonation with my router.

I use downcuts. The main thing is they need to be sharp. I do a test cut inside the soundhole before starting the rosette. If it isn't clean I change to a new bit.

Dido on what Woody & the other Chris said.
Take your time with rose channel cutting.
If you have spare or usless wood around always try a difficult
channel there first.
The down bits help so much to prevent tearout.

As a machinist I do not use a down spiral unless the hole is cleared. The chips get forced down and into your work. I use standard up cuts from BQTOOL.COM at $6.50 they are affordable. I use 3/32 bits for the rosettes.

Metal chips & wood chips are two different things!
The downcut will leave a clean line in wood !
