WOW!!!! That spalted curly maple is AWESOME Filippo! I love it!!!! [:Y:] [:Y:] [:Y:] [:Y:] [:Y:]
The crotch walnut isn't too shabby either - very nice stuff! Doncha just LOVE zoot?

Here's a couple of shots of the zoot I just started to turn into an OMC guitar (click on the pictures to see them full resolution).
I've had a large billet of beautiful cocobolo drying for a couple of years now, and recently decided to saw a few sets off to use. This is the first of them:

The sides look narrow in this shot because they're at about a 45 degree angle to get it all to fit in the chair - they're about 5" wide in reality.
It's going to go very nicely with this perfectly quartersawn stripey sinker redwood top:

My offerings are my current builds -- a 000 with the second set I got from a nicely quartered board of cocobolo. A Dred with some figured sapele from the Zootman, and a Taylor GA-type cutaway with nicely figured koa from one of the forum's auctions. It's got more figure than shows up here.

The highway people took down a large California walnut tree right around the corner from my shop. I talked them into leaving it in my driveway.

Nice stuff everybody!

I have a favorite spalted board that I dug out not long ago. It is spalted Elm, perfectly quartered and about 7 1/2 wide and 50+ long. I had ideas a long time ago to use it for back and sides but I think I am over that now. I am saving it for something special someday. It could be killer binding I think if I can bend it cleanly. Anyway, here it is:

I found this as a pallet in a dumpster out behind a Cabinet shop...

This is an OM back/rim of Brazilian rosewood. I got this from John Mayes a while back - he doesn't make OMs anymore and I can't remember why he didn't finish this guitar. One day this and an Italian bearclaw red fiemme spruce top will make my dream guitar. The picture doesn't do it justice - this is dark chocolate colored, old growth stuff.

This is a back set of classical-sized Cocobolo - the sides look the same. It has beeswing figure towards the outside edges of the boards.

Forget grains per inch... curls per inch is the new thing. :D

Unfortunately the billet is only big enough to cut headplates out of. :(
