I was wondering how many board feet does it take to make an acoustic guitar?
Thanks,
CP

Just under 0.9

It's closer to 0.8 if you can find a piece of wood already shaped like a neck and a bridge.

The waste factor is quite large, though. I'd imagine there's someone around who produces enough 'blanks' to say what the cost is in actual raw lumber?

Wow that is a lot less than I would have thought, but it makes sense. But yeah I really want to know how much including the waste.

If you are resawing boards for the top and bottom. That would take 1.5 B.F.alone with waste. Then you have the sides at 1 B.F. and lining and braces. Then the neck would depend on if it's laminated or not.Laminated would take more. And don't forget the fretboard and bridge.so your talking over 3 board feet with unlaminated neck 0.50B.F. at least with waste.

Let's see....

A rough top set is about 1/2 board foot
A rough back/sides set is about 1 board foot.
A rough neck takes another 1/2 board foot or so
Linings, purflings, and bindings may add another 1/4 board foot...

So... I add up just over 2.25 board feet....

Good luck

John
