Anyone use self locking tuners? If so which do you like?

I've only used the Sperzel's and although the locking feature was cool and worked fine, they are pretty heavy. Can't say I'll try them again though as I prefer a lighter tunning machine. I also actually really like the look of the wound string on the posts.

I used a set of the Planet Waves tuners that both lock and cut the excess string. My two complaints are: (as Rod mentioned) they are heavy, and the black finish could be more refined. But, the tuners do work very well.

I've used planet waves. They're decent quality. Functionally, I like them quite a bit. Solid tuners that lock and cut as advertised, and they hold a tuning very well.
The only cons are A) heavier, and B) the aesthetics are not as refined

How about Grover? They have two kinds.One with the thumb screw on the bottom and one that auto locks. I was looking at the auto lock kind.

Go to youtube under stringing guitar, taylor. Shows how to do it quick, simple, with cut strings and everything!

My locking tuner of choise is Sperzel.For regular tuners, i like shaller.I wouldn't use any thing else.

What's the point of using a locking tuner with acoustics? Unless you're installing tremolo onto an acoustic (not sure if anyone would do that... the weight of the bridge is sure to kill the tone), the whole point of locking tuner is to reduce the amount of windings at the tuner so that when string tension changes due to use of tremolo it won't throw the guitar out of tune.

Try the Gotoh Magnum lock.. the tuner is the same size,and I would guess the weight is minimal. I put a vintage style set on a guys Les Paul and he was thrilled with them. I also have a client with the same on a Strat - they are nothing like the ones with the rear knob as far as added weight.

Plus they are available in almost all the Gotoh style, finish and button options.

Tuning stability. No winds=no wait. The 12:1 ratio of Sperzels also gets me to alternate tunings quickly, and with accuracy.
