Santa came early!!!

Found a slightly used Performax 16-32 and Jet DC-650 on craigslist in the Denver area and ended up getting, what I thought, was a good deal on everything. Was thinking I was going to have to wait until spring to pick it up from my sister in Lafayette - but turns out my son and friends went snowboarding in Colorado over the weekend. Only 8 miles off the interstate to pick it up.

"Hey son, how 'bout you drive the Suburban and stop off on your way home and pick up the equipment?"

"Sure dad, no problem."

Great son (his mom get's all the credit) - Can't wait to get it all set up even though it is 7 below zero here. I'll have it all in person tonight. Merry Christmas to me (and my son).

Congrats Paul and Son!

When I bought my Performax it opened up all kinds of new possibilities for me in the way that I build. Best investment, next to my shop-vac, that I ever made.

Good find. I was considering the same machine when I found a used grizzly for cheap on cregslist. I was scared of the quality at first but it is the bigger closed cabinet model with 2 rollers and it has worked like a charm. My old shopmate had a Delta X open ended sander and I did not like it, the Preform X looks like a much better machine. I know you will have a merry christmas.

Like Hesh says- a great machine that makes all the thicknessing required for guitar
building very easy. Biggest lesson I had to learn was to take very small (1/8 turn or
less) increments as you sand down. Otherwise you burn the wood and the sandpaper
loads up with burnt sawdust.

Great Machine! I use a DELTA 18/36 and love it.Probably my biggest time saver.They sure make quick work in thicknessing.Great Fi nd. Mark

I'll second Gene's advice. Sandpaper can get expensive, and if you try to take too big a cut you'll be throwing a lot of belts away. If you have to take off a lot of wood, use coarse paper. I get my paper in 30' rolls from Woodcraft. Don't forget to re-align and tighten the belt every couple of passes after you change it. Having the wraps overlap will mess up your wood and the belt.

I have not bought any woodcraft paper yet, and I am sure its great. But I have bought the blue paper from Klingspor and man is this some great stuff! Don't forget the giant gum rubber "eraser" to clean the paper. Really extends the paper life. I bought a 2x2x12" stck from Klingspor for like $6.

Save your original belt as a template for cutting new ones. I also second all of the good advice above. Sorry if I echoed anyone.
