What he does is use a set of feeler guages, and files an inch or so of tiny teeth on them with a v-shaped diamond file, then uses the feeler gauge as a saw. Just used the gauge that matched the string, and sawed away. Then a bit of wet string dipped in rottenstone shoeshined through the slot to smooth out the bottom. Worked like a charm, is almost free, and you can cover every string width.

I didn't knew about this. Thanks for the information

Check out Pilgrams Projects http://www.pilgrimsprojects.biz/nut.html for a better price on Grobet nut files. I recently bought a replacement Ibex finger plane that got delivered to the wrong address and was lost. Even though it was not their fault they still went way out of their way to make it right. Great folks!

Oh, no, Hesh - stay away from the Gropert files. They're crap! ;)

Joe, me too, but it worked so slick I can't imagine anything being better. But then I've not yet used a nut file...
