If you had to pick one set to build a one-of-a-kind special guitar, which one would you pick?

Any one of the last two, for my part.

#10 closely followed by #11. The others look like stump wood.

Last two for over the top, the third one for classy. If it were for me, I'd take the second last one.

Peter - If you are building one of your 'big bottomed" jumbos I think the last set would be great. The figure would accent the lower bout! IMHO

If you are doing one of your asymmetric guitars I think #1 would be really cool.

#11 if you want an elegant, old-growth master kind of look, and if your client is maybe a bit younger (or young at heart) and is going to translate the incredible eye candy of one of the last two back sets to mean "opulent" and gets one of those things that lasts for more than four hours and needs to call a doctor (a smile, that is), then dazzle 'em!

I understand they are all stump wood, but 10 and 11 look more like old growth as Dennis pointed out.

What about the sides??? I try to pick sets as much or more from the ascetics of the sides as the back. When you play a guitar, what part of the B+S's do you look at? When its hanging on the wall what part of the B+S's do you see. The back is usually hidden, but for some reason gets most of the attention.

I'd pick #10 as being closest to the old school stuff.
The last one would make a nice table top :D

Wow, Peter, what an embarrassment of riches!
You said one-of-a-kind, so w/out hesitation the second to last.
Absolutely over the top grain figure, it just shouts "Bring it on... Ain't NO ONE gonna top me".
Now for the educated customer who is looking for BRW as it used to be, who is willing to pay even bigger bucks for the understated elegance of quarter-sawn rosewood, pull out #11 and show it to him.
And without batting an eye or clearing your throat tell him that's a $4K upcharge.

Congrats... we all wish we had your problem.

Steve
