I'm thinking I'd like to try out DTAR's wavelength on my current build, but since I really don't know too much about pickups, I thought I'd ask a couple of questions here.

First off, I'm leaning towards the Wavelength because of positive reviews I've read here, and I like the tone and volume knobs near the soundhole, especially since this guitar will have a soundport and I don't want to be looking at some electronics or battery box thru it. I like the idea of the lock 'n' load feature, even with having to put the large hole in the tailblock.

My 2 questions are:
1) Is there a better route to go for under $200? Are UST's more used on closed guitars as an afterthought because of their ease of installation. I haven't closed the box yet so my options are wide open at this point.

2) Does anyone know of a Canadian supplier of DTAR's lines? I wasn't able to get an email through to the canadian contact listed on DTAR's site. I don't mind ordering stateside if I have to, but lately I seem to be getting held up and hammered on everything I bring across the border. On my last order of 500.00, I had to pay an additional 70.00 on top of the expected shipping costs.

Thanks.

Clint

Get a UPS customs brokerage account; since the DHL thing nearly everyone in the US I deal with ships UPS. That'll get rid of any unnecessary customs fees and it only takes a few minutes. You'll still need to pay GST, but you pay that here anyhow. Order from a US distributor. Argue with them if they initially hassle you about selling across the border.

Yes, there are very good reasons for me suggesting this as the best route.
No, I don't want to make them public.

Being a Canadian also I demand the seller ship USPS no with a courier company to avoid the broker fees, the post office only charges $5.00 handling fee and the taxes. Most vendors will ship postal if asked.

As for pickups on my last build I used a K&K trinity system which has a mic and the mini western bridge plate pickups. I can use the mini westerns alone and the sound even without a preamp is exceptionally good and very true to the natural sound of the guitar. I was able to get the system from a supplier in Alberta for a reasonable price.
