I want to minimize shredding of my tops when cutting with the bandsaw. Rockler told me that I need to have 3 teeth in the wood which would mean a very fine blade with 18 or more teeth to the inch. I was planning on getting a 1/4" blade with 8 to 10 tpi? What works best for you?

1/4" x 10 works just fine. I'm sure an 8 would work too.

I just cut four out (2 backs, 2 tops) with a 1/4" - 10, works just fine.

I don't believe in anything, I simply make use of a set of reasonable working hypotheses.

I use a 1/4 x 6tpi for about everything that needs a curved cut. It matters at least as much to avoiding tearout to use a zero clearance insert.

I learn more from my mistakes than my successes

I went with the 1/4" 10 tpi. Cuts with no shredding. I do seem to have a problem with my upper pully on my 14" Jet. Its got a wobble in it. Anybody run across this problem. I think a steel replacement would be better than the aluminum one. I see that it has some hairline cracks radiating from the center.

Just to be different I use a 3/16-10 tpi ... for the life of me I cant get a 1/4-6 to run all that well. I can change from 1/2-3 to 3/16-10 and all I need to do is adjust the roller guides. Those are all I buy.
