I haven't seen it mentioned here, but is the new Festool Vacuum Clamp system available in the US? It's a bit more expensive than a few cam clamps and fibreglass rods so I think I'll have to pass!

Colin, I haven't seen it available over here. That's ridiculously expensive, just like all their other stuff. Not that some of it isn't great stuff, but a lot of it just isn't worth it.

I think they're going for that 'doesn't know how it works and thinks you get what you pay for' crowd. Vacuum clamps and pumps are dirt-simple, commodity hardware.

For anyone interested in adding vacuum to their shop, Charles Fox wrote a great article in issue #88 of the GAL publication on the subject. I took his class earlier this year and came home and duplicated his methods for under $200 - pump and all. I can firmly hold a guitar body vertically for working on the sides or horizontally for working on the top or back and any additional fixtures are easy to make when the need arises.
