Mark your wax idea seems like a good idea to me also.I like the LMI double action rods,and I`ve used caulk and never had any rattling problems,but it seems to me that caulking the bottom of the channel towards the middle would restrict the rod a bit.I know from being a building contractor that toilet bowl wax stays flexible forever.

Dumb question probably, but, I assume you melt the wax first, and pour it in the channel?

I'd think you'd have sticky mess otherwise.
