Yep, old growth air is best for the top...from high in the mountains where it is naturally thinner.

This brings up a really sore memory for me - several years ago I ordered some high dollar brace stock from a very well known old growth air supplier - I specifically asked for 1" x 1" by 24" quartersawn bracewood. The nitwits there sent me perfectly flatsawn stock and refused me a refund.
