Posting a question about a new build one is working in the Instrument Restoration and Repair forum is not a good thing! A small disaster stuck today. Apparently I didn't crank my vice down tight enough when I put the neck in it to let the finish dry and it fell out. Of course it landed right on the finger board extension and broke it off in a rather nasty way.

Two questions for the collective knowledge around here.

1) Is this worth trying to save or should l remove it and make a new fretboard? The fretboard is ebony with ebony binding and maple perfling. I hate the idea of starting over as its got some nice inlays and, more importantly, a tricky end that matches the sound hole. But if its not going to be stable after fixing it I would rather replace it now rather than have to deal with it later.

2) Assuming its worth fixing rather than replacing, what's the best way to glue this up? I am thinking black epoxy.

Thanks,
Carl.

I'd use a brown hide glue, but if you don't use that try black super glue from StewMac.

Try to glue it. If you don't like it then make a new one.

Titebond would be fine. It should glue up well because the break runs along the grain.

I did that once! Titebond or CA will work. You can hide nearly any repair on ebony. Lots of surface area for a good glue joint.

Yup, just fix it. Glue it and clamp it then clean it up. Ebony is very forgiving.

Definitely fixable.
