Post subject:  Replacement Tuners for Les Paul Studio Special

I've got a guitar from one of my pro clients back in the shop and he wants the tuners replaced. It's a Les Paul Studio Special that has no vintage value and, in a previous life, had the finish sanded off so it's just a working tool he uses mostly in the clubs in Nashville. Looks like Kluson, Grover and Gotoh all have vintage style tuners but being an acoustic guy I would be guessing. Hope you guys can help me provide him some options for a good precise tuner, not sure if he wants locking or not.

Thanks

My personal preference as a player and a luthier is Schaller. The M6 is the best at any price.

I'm with Brian.
If you can't find them, Gotoh makes some good stuff, too.

Thanks Chris, I like Gotoh too, I use their open gear tuners on acoustics.

I'll pass the info on and he can make his choice.

I’ve used several sets of the Grover keys.
The 135N set look just like the Klusons with plastic keys.
These have the ferrules pressed in from the top. I like them because they are lightweight.
I used these to replace tuners on an American SG, perfect fit, and I did not have to use the new ferrules.
I’m never disappointed with Grover.

Edit: I received a new set of 135 tuners.
Grover has changed the ferrules to washers and threaded bushings.
I don’t know if these are a direct replacement on Gibson guitars.

Thanks Brian, Chris and Dan. I heard back from the guy and he's going with the Schaller M6. I figured he would, I've setup 7 guitars for him and he's a player not a poser :)
