Hi everyone. Long shot maybe, but anyway. Do anyone know what glue is used to bond fingerboards to the neck on Ibanez RG series? I'm guessing AR, I hope it is... anyone knows for sure? Haven't seen the guitar yet, I'm just planning a course of action. Customer has dropped the guitar and the glue joint apparently partly gave. Please don't tell me it's epoxied... please.

Just got the neck. Fingerboard unglued from the nut to about the 5th fret. Looks plenty solid all the way down, so I suspect the glue joint let go because there was not enough glue in the first place. I encountered just such an issue with a neck joint on a PRS SE Santana not too long ago. Just not enough glue to hold things together.

So. Customer is adamant about keeping costs (very) low, so removing FB, cleaning and regluing is out of the question.

Would you take a chance injecting Titebond? Seems like the only option. The customer has been told he has to agree to the possibility of failure due to glue contamination.

I’m not keen on doing a job that has zero chance of success, even if the customer agrees to it. What's your opinion on this?

Thanks everyone.

Why would you do that? You know that it won't last for very long. Fire him.

I don't know what Ibanez uses. Might be fish glue.

As for the repair, cleaning up the old glue just NEEDS to be done, period. Make the client sign the receipt authorizing a cheapo job, or that you WILL not guarantee the work. Pretty good bet it will be back. Don't use CA glue, please. Leave that to the DIY hacks.

Thanks Barry and Chris. This is one of those cases when you just know it'll bounce back in your face if you take a chance. Can't identify the glue used, but there's a very high probability that this is AR, so that'd be a no-go for you two as well then. That's what I tough, thanks for taking the time to chime in.

Better to regret turning away the work, than to regret who knows what kind of drama after saying yes.
