Post subject:  Washburn Mandolin neck repair

Hey all, I need some advice on how to go about removing the neck from this mandolin. There is a dowel about a third of the way up from the bottom of the heel, and it looks as if the seam under the 12th fret is where the actual joint occurs, and that the wood beyond that is part of the neck block. If that's the case, I assume there is another dowel in there somewhere and the fingerboard would have to be removed before anything else takes place, correct?

never seen one before but; It may be an old un conventional repair
I would drill any dowels out very carefully, there may be a screw or bolt in there.
Getting a powerful magnet may reveal if there is metal inside the heel.

Neck removal would be a heroic effort on an inexpensive Chinese mandolin, to say the least. Dowels are part of the expected original construction. If the neck is loose, I'd consider squidging in whatever glue I could, and using a long deck screw through the heel to hold it back in place. . .
