I've got an early 70s Kamaka on the bench that has lost half of its back. All of the joints cleaned up very well with a little warm water and some q-tips. I'm assuming its HHG based on the way it cleaned up. The question is: would it be sacrilege to re-glue with Fish? I'd like a bit more open time than HHG offers.

Thoughts?

Thanks, M

I've hide glued all of these. If you need more open time you may want to consider Old Brown Glue. Bit longer open time than hot hide but it behaves identically.

I would advise against fish glue, I used to use it but then I started having alot of previous repairs get undone in less than 2 years time.

I went ahead and setup for HHG. I warmed the Uke under a heat lamp, then practiced the glue-up 3 times. All indications are that it went really well.

I do love learning new stuff!

Cheers, M

Good work! Hot hide glue is great stuff.
