Have a client who wants his Martin Stratabond neck reprofiled.
I wouldn't like to take much off depth wise, as it is possibly thick for a reason (elasticity?), but probably I can take a bit off the sides to reprofile.
Not sure about taking a rasp to it though, maybe stick to spoke shaves and abrasives.
But was researching refinish requirements and (possible walnut stain)/thinned boiled linseed oil was recommended (Frank Ford)
Anyone with comments/experience?
Edit - nearly forgot, my trusty scrapers, they would be ideal for reprofiling.

My SWAG would be to first call the mother ship and ask these questions. I couldn't see giving a customer an estimate of the cost of doing what he wants without knowing what's involved, ahead of time.

Well Pete, my SWAG is you don't assume anything before you take your foot out of your mouth, but backwards.
My client (of 4 years) is coming in later today for a couples of re-frets (a D-16GT beater and a limited edition 00-18SH Steve Howe signature) and "to discuss options to thin the (D-16GT) neck a little if possible" - his words.
Some considerable time was spent by myself researching the web on stratabond working and re-finishing it, especially UMGF, before I posted.
So if you have some experience please pass it on,
Thanks for posting,

Stratabond is just engineered wood. Basically a structural plywood. As such any finish will work that is suitable for wood. To profile stay with abrasives, the grain reverses between pieces and it gets grabby under the sharpest of hand blades.

Are you wanting to blend with the original finish on the headstock? I believe the original finish is a urethane oil type finish.

Done. Reprofiled from D to C profile, used scrapers and abrasives to 800 grit. Now getting some coats of Danish oil.
