So, I bought this pile of "parts" because I liked the neck and thought I could reuse the neck for a build Oooops, read bottom to top. |

Looks like a poorly contoured top and back. No recurve anywhere that I can see. Don't see that translating into a cutaway unless that whole area on top and back are flat. In case it is flat, poor contouring. |

In case it is flat, poor contouring. I think the back was probably pressed vs. carved, other than add the cutaway I am not going to do much more than that. As I am using the old piece of the side, flipped, I'll need to address the gap between the back and the side in the cut. I'll probably extend the binding a bit (I've seen this done on Ibanez) The top is still a work in progress. I a trying to mimic pictures I have of an 50's ES-225T. I haven't carved any of the inside of the top yet, so it will meet the rim, even after I put the cutaway in the top, then I'll work on the internal contour. Another thought I had is if I am going to put pickups in do I want the top to be lively or not, in which case, should I leave a slab running down the centerline, vs. adding a block like an ES semi hollow. The pickups are P-90s I am not sure how much of the sound will be guitar vs. pickups. Albeit I can hear a difference between an old ES and a Junior Also not sure on the holes yet - traditional f-holes or something different. I was thinking diamonds like a Trini Lopez, or Comets with tails, or none. Thanks. |

Don't know what you are expecting or trying to achieve, but if it is as you described and just having some fun, you might consider no ff holes and no carving on the inside for feedback reasons. As far as ff, diamonds, comets or dolphin shapes, I wouldn't worry about that...doesn't make much difference. Have fun! |
