Any tricks for getting rid of the white residue super glue leaves on black plastic? I tried fixing a cracked knob, now there is white stuff all over the crack which looks terrible.

The white 'residue' isn't residue at all. It's the CA that's dried too fast and has foamed up.

If it were any other material but plastic, you could dissolve the glue with acetone or CA remover, but that will only melt the plastic.

Other than painting it, there's not too much you can do to fix the problem at this point.

Often you can take a very sharp pointy blade, like X-Acto #11 and score fairly deep into the crack to break up the surface of the white CA. Then, first a tiny little bit of acetone to melt it slightly, followed by thin applications of thin viscosity CA to fill the crack. Stay away from accelerator to avoid the whites.

I actually had pretty good luck using micromesh, and polishing progressively through all the grits. It was an old knob, so I didn't need it to look shiny and new, but I needed to get rid of the white stuff, I couldn't even tell the super glue had got on the outside of the knob when it was done.
