Filling some cracks with ca on the top . Have the back to do as well . Then figure out what someone was thinking when they glued that plywood in at the neck . [headinwall] Friends guitar he saved from a fire at a old house . His son wants to play it .

Might check to be sure the neck block is securely glued in.
Those models were notorious for coming loose.
The block was flat, but the back is curved.....

Big:
Have you considered dumping the hardware in the bridge? Should make guitar more responsive and a wider saddle would be a help when setting up the intonation.

Ok Dumb Question here probably , But I dont know the answer .

12 string , zero fret epi repair . Is the scale measured from the 0 fret to the 12th or the nut ? 0 fret is almost 3/16 from nut to center of the fret .. If i measure it that way its very close , if I measure it from the nut... well not so much ... Logic says it should be from 0 fret to twelfth fret and twelfth to bridge saddle ..

You had it right... scale is from zero fret to saddle on guitars with one. [length of the vibrating string].

Put a little more time in on the 12 string , I have the neck mounted and all the cracks filled . I repaired the area around the sound hole with a custom pick guard . and buffed it out a bit . The new saddle has to be made and she needs strung up . Jeremy wanted a playable 12 string and thats about what he should have. pfft laughing6-hehe

The donut around the soundhole looks weird. Why did you do that?

Go back and look at the pix. Some idiot put a chunk of plywood in there when the guitar started folding up. Epiphones did this quite frequently.

Speaking only as a person that is often called upon to repair an instrument that was previously repaired, I wouldn't be so quick to call the person that put the plywood in an idiot. Personally, I like the look of the black ring that was put around the sound hole however, I could imagine a future conversation where someone is explaining to another someone how some...idiot put a big black doughnut on a guitar...

Edyted to feeks spellings airer.

I'm fully confident that someone will some day call my repairs the work of an idiot. I know I've fixed other people's repairs, the whole time saying, "what were they thinking?" I've also looked back on a few of my own and said, "what was I thinking?"

Doing this for a friend who really does not want to spend much money, and wants a 12 string for his son to play . Seemed simplier than trying to router out for new rosette .

I am Certain that my work will be called into question some day, heck I call it into question now LOL

Been there myself. Sometimes you can only do what the client can pay for.

I think in the early 80's I remember seeing many of this model collapse at the sound hole and I could never come up with a repair that worked. The bridges came up also. Good luck and I hope you have success.

I used to take the back off and make all the repairs and mods to make things fit.
Then they would last.

Well the Epiphone 12 string is done and has been played a bit . It sounds really good for what is here . The cracks are not extremely visable , and buffed out to a satin finish .

The black "rosette" gives a look like an Applause guitar, but other than that - it looks awesome.
