That's a good looking piece of Hog. That thing is gonna sound killer! If you're wanting that vintage LP tone, Fralin has the "Pure PAF" humbucker.

They're a little pricey at $130 per, but Fralins get great reviews and I've been very happy with mine.

Thanks for the link. I listened to a few sound clips. I really like the sound.

Yeah, my Fralins have a very "natural" sound, if that makes sense. Not a great deal of coloration. The sound coming out of the amp sounds a lot like the guitar unamped.

Laying out my neck today. Gonna rough cut it out tonight then I need to spend some money on a spindle sander to get the body and neck to final dimensions. Anyone have a spindle sander for sale?

Trimmed the width of the fretboard to closer match the neck width. I love the contrast of rosewood on maple.

Ordered a Grizzly spindle sander today. When I get home from vacation it should be waiting on me. Should make shaping the body to size a lot quicker.

Okay need a bit of advice. I am not real happy with the gap around the neck/ neck pocket. What would be a good way to cover this without a pickguard? I don't want to cover much of that beautiful wood.

I admit that my knowledge of electric guitars is very limited, but maybe put some binding around the neck pocket to hide the gap and any shims that you narrow the pocket with.

I'm with Alex. That's a great idea to hide the gaps with binding.

Need some binding help. What is the best way to cut your binding channel? The top wood on this guitar is redwood and it seems very "soft" and prone to tear out.

I cut mine with the stew mac bit and bearing set. Works great for me. If you are concerned about tearout there are some precautions you can take sic as clamping a thin piece of stock on top of the wood so it has a backer. Just be sure to set your depth enough to compensate.

Or you can score it first with a gramil type cutter.

Dan if you don't have your binding rig sorted out yet, you are welcome to come up and use mine.

Ha - I wish I could use it properly! But you can use it to just score the wood before routing and it prevents tearout.
