I have to admit I am confused by the carbon fiber thread. I've done some work with carbon fiber and have experienced both it's surprising stiffness and strength in some areas and total weakness in others. I just don't see where these threads can add stiffness to the brace.

The threads are on the top and bottom of the braces and act in tension to limit vertical deflection of the brace.

That pirate inlay is awesome! Should look great against the shimmering figure of the sipo. But not one piece of black pearl?

Is there a theory behind "inlaying" the braces, or are you just experimenting?

I'm still debating whether to do falcate on one of my in-progress guitars or not, and this is tipping me back toward yes...

think of the braces as "I" beams with the carbon fiber taking most of the stress and the wood taking the shear stress, carbon fiber virtually eliminates cold creep that is experienced with traditional braces..it's all in "The Books" and Trevor can explain it much better than I can.. [:Y:]

Kind of experimenting with the channels in the braces, one idea is that the layup was much easier to do and to keep from fraying the carbon tow!!

Finally some progress??!!!!!! wow7-eyes
this one is getting solid linings top and bottom, the bottom linings are zebrawood..linings are bent then the laminates are glued together using the rim for a form, then shaped sanded and glued in place..

Looks good. It looks like you didn't fan out the CF tow onto the top at the brace ends. Any reason on that one?

Top is braced and glued to rim, I glue the back on first only reversed with back on the bottom so I can clean up insides, plus easier to line up the back , and the soundboard on top for same reason , much easier to line up!! beehive
