Hello. I am New at this forum. I have buildt some Electric guitars and a fretless bass. Now it is time to try Acoustic instruments. I have started on a Tenor Ukulele and a Martin-style guitar using plans from Georgia Luthier Supply. This build thread is for my Ukulele. I really wanted to build using local material. Local means Northern Norway. So material is locally grown Spruce, birk and Rowan. This is not the most common materials for guitars, but I am not the first who use it. I am Lucky to have materials stored for many years, and a lot of Tools. (I also have a boatbuilding-project going) I hope to learn from experienced luthiers here at the forum. Starting to look like.. something. Neck and back is not glued, as I am waiting for a preamp to mount before closing it. Also making a knife from the same willow used on the headstock

Looking great. Nice wood choices. When you say Birk, is that what we Usonians would call Birch? Somewhere here is a thread about Art's "Norwegian wood" mandolin, you should check it out. BTW, in that last picture, is the bridge sitting there backwards or do the strings load from the front? |

The bridge is bacwards but not glued.  Yes it is Birch (Betula pubescens) Thanks for the responses. I will check out the Norwegian Wood mandolin thread Fred |
