Went for a simple x brace. No bridge plate.
Not a great Uke player but she sounds pretty good.

Thanks for the pics. I'm getting ready to put finish on my first foray into uke making Tenor with a soft wood top). I'm starting to think I have over braced it after reading bits and pieces here lately. I based my bracing on notes taken from a couple of commercially available plans. Perhaps I should have assumed that those plans were overbraced. Too late now unless I can find someone with a tiny hand :)

Would anyone mind sharing how a spruce top changes the sound? I've never heard a uke with a softwood top in person.

Very pretty. Can you do a sound clip?

I heard a spruce uke compared to a mahogany/koa top uke, the spruce is in general brighter, louder, and just better sounding. However it's a hard sell because people prefer traditional (koa) uke.

Tai +1 for spruce /cedar . I have koa and lots of mahogany. But IMHO it/s a rice/beans issue. If you take in too much of one, you no of nothing else out there .I/ve built ukes with spruce/cedar / yellow cedar etc . for any uke afficionados .I have pics/ lots of uke building videos and a few sound clips. www.ateliertomistrings.com

Hi I'm brand new here. I love your Uke. I have one I'm building at this time. I've never built a Uke before. Sides and back are EIR,with a strip of Purpleheart down the middle of the back. Ebony veneer on the headstock. I'm building it for a nine year old little girl for free of course. She chose African Mahogany for the neck. I agree I like the light gold color too. You've given me some good ideas thanks. Love that headstock BTW. Lonnie

Thanks Steve; I have a little experience. A couple of years ago I won an auction on eBay for a Stafford Soprano Uke, a Lyra Baritone, and a 1/4 Itzimba made in Mexico guitar. I've been kind of copying the Lyra for the dimensions etc. Looking forward to completing this thing. Most all complete now just need to brace and assemble and finish it. Eat Drink I love these little emoticons BTW

I forgot but had to install a fretboard and frets on the soprano Uke.

Steve after seeing your Uke I found a deal on some Hormigo couldn't pass it up. May be awhile before I can get around to it.
