Traditionally a "hacklinger" gauge, although these days people are experimenting, including electronic versions like this

I have this tool, and I recommend it highly. Mine is an early version, without the USB interface thing, so I use it as a "traditional" caliper, and jot down numbers in a notebook. It is still very convenient, compared to a Hacklinger for example, but connecting it directly to a computer opens up new possibilities. The guy who makes them is quite active over on Mandolin Cafe, and I understand he is also developing some interesting looking new software for mapping archtop plates, to go with the tool.

Arnt, interesting to hear you're using the magic probe. I think it's developed into a great tool.
I'd be surprised if Liam wouldn't "upgrade" you to one of the newer versions if you asked him.

Hi Dave, perhaps he would. He told me when I got the first one I was his first customer in Norway (or was it Europe?), it wouldn't surprise me if I'm still his only customer in Norway, perhaps that makes me "special" enough for an upgrade, huh? ;) I'm quite happy to just use it the old school way actually, in fact I don't even have a computer in the shop, so I wouldn't know what to do with a USB connection, anyways.

Hi Arnt
Dave is correct. I will of course upgrade you if you want to get rid of the sketchbook.
The new software is now complete, so now you can turn those numbers into a full color contour map.
Also, you do not need to own a MAG-ic Probe in order to use the PRO software. A manual entry option is added.
