Post subject:  Rebinding a cheap mandolin.

I am repairing a "cheap" mandolin for a friend/ customer. (F5 style, plywood) A brace came loose at the front and was allowing the top to cave in when tuned to pitch. So I removed the back repaired the brace, reinstalled the back and now need to rebind it. Is there a specific glue you like for binding? Does it matter if its a plywood insturment? If this wasn't for a friend who has a attachment to this insturment it would not have been worth repairing. Any suggestions?

I think it depends on what you are going to bind it with. Wood, or plastic? I did a similar job, using the plastic binding and glue that stew-Mac sells. It worked well.

Duco or other model glue(acetone. Based) for pla
stic / celluloid and titebond for wood.

Be sure to let duco dry for at least 24 or more before scraping the bindings .... they swell.

I like CA for plastic and fish glue for wood.
