Any reason I shouldn't use steel for the control cover? And magnets to hold it down? The magnets would be imbedded in the body. Thanks. |

Plan would be to blue it (or something similar) to avoid rusting. As long as nothing is touching it, is its conductivity a problem? |

As long as it doesn't touch any lugs you will be good. Won't have to worry about shielding it either. |

don't see any issues...my Jackson Rhoads has a brass pickguard/control mounting plate, my Frankenstrat has a steel one...system is of course grounded to the plate...I assume you are referring to just a control cover on the back of a guitar as opposed to like on a strat...for some reason having the field generated by what I assume are going to be super magnets tickles a worry, but I don't know any facts in regards to that... bluing will still rust, stainless steel still rusts...I can't tell what the coloring is made by on my 18 lb. strat monstrosity, but it doesn't look like bluing to me as it's too black and just plain doesn't look like any bluing I've ever seen on a gun as to magnets, why? clean look I know, but just what is the plan for removal? I guess a stronger magnet can be used to get it to pull off, but then you have to get that magnet off the plate! |

G&L use powder coated steel for control and neck plates. Not stainless either since they are magnetic. (Yes, some stainless is magnetic. I use it in pickups) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The outside has been flame treated for visual effect and I'm thinking about clear coating it as well- again for rust prevention. It's held in place by rare earth magnets. I made a handle with a large rare earth magnet for removal. Works well. |

I saw one builder use a 4 point cover with magnets under 3 of them. So you can push down on the 4th point/corner and the opposite corner would pop up. |
