Why the separate tail block from the center block? I’ve seen that before and never understood it.

Because I'm doing a period correct 1958 dot neck. This is how Gibson did it back then. It does make getting the center black in a lot easier as it really needs to be clamped in and snug at the Mickey Mouse ears.

Yes the sides are 3 laminated veneers.

Tops on and getting ready to box her up. After reading about what a nightmare it is to wire these up. I'm tempted to tape in a wired up harness. with pull strings.

That is exactly what I did.

Its still a hassle to fish them into their holes but at least you don't have to pull everything thru the f-holes. FWIW, I also put some low resistance terminal strips in the pickup sockets so I didn't have to fish pickup wire thru to the pots. It will make it much easier if we ever need to change pups (you can barely see them in the bridge p/u cavity in the bottom picture)
