So quick question. I have a set of walnut tops that I'd like to use on a p-bass build.
One side has a cup, one side a twist. I don't want to really try and plane out the defects cause it'll take too much wood away. I was thinking about just taking a gamble and gluing it down with a crap ton of weight on top to flatten it. Would that work? Any other options I may not be thinking about?

Iron it out with a clothes iron set on nuclear and then pile a bunch of weight on it. You will feel it relax when it gets good and hot.

Although with the cathedral grain - it's probably mostly flat sawn and may not straighten...
