Would you mind sharing some info about the finish technique?

Did you stain, spray tinted lacquer, epoxy pore fill.... in other words, how did you get it to look so good?

Thanks! Sure, I masked off the top with automotive pin striping tape and then used a water based aniline dye on the mahogany back, I then used zpoxy to pore fill the back. I don't think I'd use epoxy to pore fill in the future, I sanded through the stain so many trying to level the pore fill so i had to keep re-staining the areas that sanded through. I then masked off the mahogany and the top leaving only the faux binding areas around the periphery exposed and sealed it with vinyl sanding sealer .In the next step I used the same type of aniline dye to stain the top with a dark color and then sanded it back to remove most of the stain leaving it only on the end grain portions of the maple's curl. Next I used a lighter color to stain the sanded back wood. I then used a razor to clean up some of the faux binding around the edges of the top. I then sprayed the whole guitar with a couple coats of sanding sealer and sanded the sealer nice and level. I sprayed the guitar with probably eight coats of nitrocellulose lacquer and then sanded and buffed with micro mesh sanding pads and menerza buffing compounds.

It was easily the most difficult and time consuming process of the entire build. I'm pretty happy with the result but I have a lot of room for improvement.

That's exactly why I asked. Just gave up on trying to color then pore fill with epoxy for the same reason. My color was getting splotchy from all the touch up. [headinwall]

Haha That's funny. It arrived on Thursday and the customer was ecstatic! .It was pretty nerve racking being my first commission but it all went well.

Yes, in fact I sanded the back down completely just leaving the fill in the pores and re-stained It. I almost forgot about that.
