Now with box elder should I use grain filler when i finish it? I was thinking a clear gloss or something related due to the beautiful grain

Not being a smartypants, but use your eyes. Look carefully at it. If it has open pores, fill them.

Spray a coat, then another,
sand.
Spray a coat, then another,
sand.
Spray a coat, then another.
See pores?
Spray a coat, then another,
sand.
Eventually you won't see no more pores.

No offense. But not a good idea. Firstly, what a huge waste of material. Secondly, depending on the finish used (let's say nitro?) it will sink over time and the pores will show right back up. Faster than you'd think too.
Chris

Chris I agree with your statement about it sinking, and it doesn't have to be lacquer for that to happen. I use a lot of automotive clear coat and will get the same thing. Unless the grain is fill, you are going to get what I call drawback (sinking) in the grain pores.

I guess I'm kinda weird duh.
I like that sunken look.
I also don't care for a buffed out glass like finish.
Different strokes.

What do you mean "kinda"? laughing6-hehe

There are tons of guitars out there that have oiled wood and many of them have no pore filler at all.
