Post subject:  ground hide glue and shellac only.

just started looking into building one as i am very chemically sensitive and have to have only ground hide glue and shellac to finish. this is why i'm interested in assembling and finishing it for myself. it appears some of the electrics are all screwed and bolted together. do they have kits that dont need glue? thx.

Any strat or tele style guitar kit should be totally screw together. Assuming the fretboard is already attached to the neck.

Do you know that shellac contains a lot of methyl alcohol? Not exactly chemical free.

thanks for the info. apparently ethyl alcohol (ethanol) can also be used which is a safe solvent.

Safeish. If you are severely chemically sensitive, even ethyl alcohol may give you problems. However, once shellac is applied and cures, there should be minimal exposure. In other words, you may want to let someone else do the finishing.

Also, be aware that some wood dust can be very toxic.
