Post subject:  My first building and my first question!!

Hi, my name is Jose Antonio, I´m from Spain and I`m building my first acoustic guitar, I have got a silly question, my top is 2,5mm thickness, but I think that is good 3mm, is there any problem if I use 2,5mm??. Thanks you and soon some pictures : )

Hi, Jose and welcome. May I suggest that you post your question in the Acoustic guitar section instead of the Kit subforum - lots more people will see it and will comment.

Also, maybe some other information - what kind of guitar are you building (classical, steel string, etc), what kind of wood are you using, what will the bracing pattern be? On both my steel string and classicals I typically use about 0.110 inch which is 2.7mm for spruce tops

Looks nice. I don't have any experience with cedar, but again, what I would suggest is posting your question and that last picture at the regular Guitar Building Forum where most discussion on acoustics take place. Be sure to make the topic something like "Question about the thickness of a cedar top". If people think it is marginal on thickness maybe someone can suggest bracing to compensate.

2.5mm is a little thin....but you can be ok depending on size and bracing. Are you working from plans?

Also....cedar dents easily. You'll have to be very careful building to avoid scratches and dents that you'll have to sand out in the final assembly
