What are your experiences with an LMI dread kit. I'm probably going to buy one and I was wondering how y'all felt about them. East Indian Rosewood sides and back.

Well, stuff from LMII is always good. And if it's not, they'll send you back another one, with any charges. The price is really good. If you make the count, you save a lot money, it's a great deal.

Good Luck
Francis

Haven't built the dread but I have built an LMI classical and a parlor, and now that I'm pretty much scratch building they are still my main source for wood products. Top quality materials, good prices and a pleasure to work with.

A couple of minor things - be aware of the differences between "serviced" and "unserviced" (knowing what you can do yourself). Spending time with the "kit wizard" can be wonderful (and expensive). Do a bolt on for your first neck joint.

I don't know which plans come with the dread kit, but you may want to get additional instructions (download the free pdf from StewMac). If the plans are the Scott Antes ones (like my parlor) they have the reputation of being "overbraced" - I scalloped the parlor quite heavily compared to the plans. Also the Antes plans were drawn as thou you were looking thru the top rather than from the back of the top - there are quite a few people who build "lefties" (ask how I know).

Here is a Lmi OM I built, I also got the matching template which is nice, Antes Plans I got were drawn as normal, EIR , sitka , great stuff, the kit wizard is fantastic...
I have also built the Stew Mac triple 000 kit which was very nice as well..

I built a serviced LMI classical guitar. The quality of the materials was very high. LMI provides no real instructions with their kits. They offered a DVD or a credit with the kit. Two pictures of my build from the LMI kit below
