I was going to wait until it was completely finished but I took some photos for my mom to see and I decided to post here as well LMI unserviced flamenco kit with Western Red Cedar top monterey cypress back and sides indian rosewood head plate, bridge, and heel cap ovankol binding with bw fiber purfling polyurethane finish I was going to make my own rosette but the thing I did was not good and this one was so pretty. The finish is in process and need a couple more coats and then a buffing out. Thanks for looking! |

Stephen, that is coming along very nicely. The colour match from that rosette is perfect for the guitar, and the overall look is classy and well executed. I've only played a Santos Hernandez once but it left me with the impression of a very lively bright sound (my attempts at flamenco were not all that successful!) I hope you will post a sound clip when it's finished. Colin |

Stephen: That looks great. It seems like just a couple of weeks ago you finished your first. I hope to have one to post soon. I am at the setup stage, bit I am not sure if mine is worthy. |

Thanks for all the comment folks! Quote: Stephen: That looks great. It seems like just a couple of weeks ago you finished your first. I hope to have one to post soon. I am at the setup stage, bit I am not sure if mine is worthy. I laid out the scarf joint for the headpiece on Feb 6 and I lost a week because I broke a side on the bending iron. It made me so mad I bought a bending machine from Blues Creek. Colin, I do not have any sort of recording equipment. Do you have any suggestions for something inexpensive that will create mp3's? I am not really able to do much with computers beyond check email and this sort of thing so it needs to be simple. Thanks again everyone-it is nice to hear good feedback. |

Very nicely done!!!!! Do you have #3 on the way? So...what material did you use for your saddle? Looks pretty dark..... |

Thanks Robbie, Number three gets frets tomorrow! Tru-oil is on its way for the finish and I will french polish the top. The saddle is black horn from LMI. I had the same material for the nut but I boogered it up. I have more black horn to make a new nut coming as well. I wanted this guitar to be as simple and monochrome as possible. She is really playing well right now so it may be a while before I make a new nut. |

That looks excellent and all trim is wisely chosen. I do have a couple suggestions, which are not intended to put you down, but should improve you future ones a bit (imvho) 1. leave some more meat on the headstock above the slots. I like your cut, but it is too short 2. make the nut narrower. Max 5mm. 4.5mm looks best to me. 3. make the heel end narrower. 4. get ridd of the black saddle Other than that, it looks excellent |

Thank you Darryl for your kind words. Alexandru wrote: Quote: That looks excellent and all trim is wisely chosen. I was trying to make this guitar as light as possible but in the end I do not care for the headstock shape. My current build is much more traditional. Number 2. CHECK! I screwed that up early on and am stuck with it. I promise I won't do that again! Number 3. CHECK! You are the second person to give that advice and I can see exactly what you mean. I shall improve! Number 4. CHECK! In the end I do not like the black horn either. It is just strange. Thanks for your feed back. It is valuable to me. Here are a couple of teasers from number 3. Pore filling is happening today and finishing should start soon. |

Hey that looks very nice! My first guitar had a huge 6mm width nut. I tried too hard not to make it too narrow, or have the 12th too off the joint... I think the white saddle gives a ...purpose to the bridge and an end to the strings. Without it I can't really understand what's happening in there from a distance. Perhaps a black saddle would work better with a very light color bridge. Today I am preping my number 4 (and finish the neck for my 5th ) |
