So... After telling you all 5 years ago that I was building a DIY Joe's 4X4 CNC. It's finally done. I actually only worked on it the last 6 months and it is the new EVO (Evolution) version of Joes CNC. The 3rd iteration. This newer version is Heavy Duty and more accurate, etc... Cutting surface of 54" X 54" x 8" deep. Kind of overkill for my original purpose of just doing necks and bridges. ha ha.

As we all know life gets in the way and moving and sh...t etc.. I finally have a shop again!!! Life is GOOD Again!

Here's a picture.

Cost about $5K to build because I live on an Island in Canada and shipping/Duty/Broker Fees all suck.

Win 7 Pr 32 bit with Mach3, Gecko G540 controller, SuperPID V2 spindle speed, (380 oz-in Nema 23 Stepper Motors)
Learned how to MIG weld on YouTube for the 2X2 square tubing table.

Learning Vectric Aspire 8 now for stuff and will be using (Rhino or SW or ???)for Guitar necks etc...

I cut a test sign for fun last week and now have a retirement plaque to do at work. Then on to guitar necks and whatever..........

What a ride [uncle]

Fantastic - great work!

Living on a west coast island myself, and just in the last stages of setting up my CNC router, I can really identify with your situation and process.

Congrats on completing the build and nice first cut!

Thanks so much guys. I must say forums like this one and Joe's CNC forum are the real hero's in DIY. There were many obstacles building my CNC. But forum members just chime in and help you get back on track. Great forums are truly the enabling factor of DIY and Maker sites.
Ok... I'm back to the 100+ video tutorial video's on the the Vectric Aspire site. I watch many of them 2 times cause I'm kinda slow most days:) Their tutorials are awesome!!!! I wish Rhino would make 100 tutorials.

So... New to CNC and Aspire I volunteered to do a Retirement Project for my first non scrap cut. Our lead Municipal Engineer/Manager at work was famous for introducing Roundabouts to our Municipality.
Wow... I learned a lot on my FIRST real CNC project.
Unlike the people at work, it so nice here because these 3 pictures tell you guys exactly how I did it all.
Woods (Wenge, Maple and Bloodwood) 3/8 Maple inlay into 1/4 pockets to give a raised curb look.
Started by importing an autoCAD file of a roundabout into Aspire.

A sign, or a CNC? My CNC machine sits in my workshop insatiably gobbling up my time and sanity!
