That would be great. I've actually been considering completely re-doing my control box with a Kstep/Kflop combo. To add encoders, I'll need to add some sort of opto-isolator board. I've found a 16 channel board for $100 or these: http://numato.com/opto-isolator-breakout#comment-169 that are only $5 a piece. Kstep would give me all the I/O I need for everything but, I'd have to either scavenge my old control box for the power supply etc. which would put my machine out of order during the rebuild or, I'd have to spend more money to build a complete box.

I'm thinking that in the interest of cash-flow, I'm still going to go with a separate Kflop only box with the cheapo isolators.

I thought you could run encoders directly to the KFLOP, just not differential encoders? Anyway, sounds like you've got a solution. I'm a big fan of the KANALOG, but it is another chunk o' change.

Yes, you can run encoders straight into the Kflop but, Tom recommends isolation and if I recall correctly (haven't looked at the spec in a few weeks) most of the inputs on the Kflop are 3.3v. Only some of the inputs are 5v tolerant. There's not enough 5v inputs for 3 single ended encoders, plus this plus that etc.

KAnalog or Koptical would do the trick but they cost just as much or more as the Kstep which has pretty much everything I need on it plus the drivers. Additionally, the Kstep has a 0-10v output I'd need for spindle control. Without an ATC or other fancy shmancy stuff I don't really need the additional I/O of the Kanalog or Koptical.

At this very second, I'm leaning toward re-doing from scratch using a kflop/kstep even though it will tie up money until I get it tested and running and can get rid of my old control box. I keep flip flopping though unfortunately.
