Attached the pictures rather than just linking. Maybe this will work.

I have an Orpheum Resonator and am wondering what this feature is for:

It looks like a place for something going through the center of the bridge, but I can't fathom what it is for

Anybody know?

thanks - Mark

There's a screw and spring that runs between the bridge and cone that you tension to help keep rattles down.

The reason I ask is that the parts have always been missing (bought used). I haven't been complaining about rattles over the past few years, so I guess I should just leave it all alone

Yes, that is the tension screw that connects the saddle part of the spider to the cone. It's not there to keep rattles down, its the actual connection to the cone. Usually (but not always) the center of the saddle is cut out so you can access it. It needs to be snugged up, maybe a quarter of a turn, but not too tight - that will choke the cone sound. Normally there is a hole in the palm rest to access it, I've never seen the hole plugged.

Thank you for the info. The hole isn't plugged, but has a grommet. There is a cut-out in the middle of the bridge, too. What thread screw is yours? Maybe I really should try to get this right

Thanks-Mark

Not sure - its the long thing above the saddle in my picture - I'm sure its SAE thread but don't know what. If you buy a new cone you will get one with it or go to Paul Beard's website and they will have it. Btw, the Beard video on setting up a spider bridge resonator is very good, as is the these instructions from StewMac
