It will be based on my MK5 design...which is a 12 fret cutaway .. Bubinga back and sides , with a "a" Sitka top...beard spider bridge and cone, along with a gold cover , sound ports and tailpiece all well made in south korea!!!!...a Resoacoustic!! wow7-eyes any suggestions , ideas along the way will be appreciated...haven't decided yet about the top although I would like to use a radiused top if possible to help with the neck angle... idunno

I would certainly consider checking into the designs of Tim Scheerhorn. His internal construction is fairly unique, and is what I based my design on.

I was thinking on something along the lines of a brace with arms that connects to the neck block , heel and sides, and radiused , the sides will have solid linings to link to .... idunno subject to change!!!!!!!!!! wow7-eyes

I don't see how a radiused top would work, as you need a flat top for the coverplate.
I sanded an angle into the upper bout to get my neck angle. I have a National El Trovador and it looks like National does the same. If I lay a straight edge across the top. the lower bout is flat, but the upper bout angles down, dropping off about 1/8" at the neck block.

If I lay the coverplate down on a radiused top it fits flush.., but what about recessing the plate into the top???? which would require recessing the cone slightly more.... I do see a possible break angle issue using a tail piece??? idunno doesn't seem to be a lot of information out there???
what about the thought of possibly using a pinless bridge instead of a tailpiece to compensate for the different break angle??????

The cover will conform to a 30' radius without any issues but the floor of the well needs to be flat. There's really no reason to arch the top, most builders just put a small wedge under the FB when they set the neck.

As to recessing the cover I've done them both ways and sitting flat on the top isn't really a big deal. Looks fine either way.

As to the tailpiece/break angle I think you're over-worrying this a bit. The break angle doesn't have to be very high.

Another jig to radius main brace using my radius dish...I will rout everything out after gluing to the top piece which is some really stiff Sitka,,,thinned to .115

the stick used in the neck block glue up is for alignment only....

Fitting the top....gluing UTB on a 70 foot caul to flatten fretboard area
sanding in radius to the rims..

Still winging it...having fun!!!!! wow7-eyes
Top is radiused to the standard 28 foot radius, the area under the fretboard extension has a 70 foot radiused brace to flatten the upper bout.
cover plate is recessed 3/64 into the top with the cone recessed another 1/4 inch which put the top of the spider flush with the lower part of the opening in the coverplate...all this gets my neck angle in the ball park...
My circle cutter has worked flawlessly so far!!!!!!!!!!! bliss

More progress!!! about to close the box then start on the neck, still toying with the idea of a wooden pinless bridge instead of the tail piece..

Just stumbled across this. Very cool build. Looking good so far. What is the purpose of the dowels connecting the top and back?
